OVNI is from El Salvador, the smallest country in America, They began as a group of boys in bicycle who eventually began to play some instruments and in 1978 became a band called KARN, the first letter of the name of each member (Kristián Calderón, Ajax Calderón, Rafael Alfaro and Mauricio Ernesto (Neto) Alfaro). Their music was in English influenced by The Beatles but in 1982 They discovered groups such as Yes, ELP, Genesis, and others, the music evolved as well as their name becoming OVNI. A lot has changed since then, members came and went but the most important change was in 2001 when Rafael, Mauricio and Kristián, the three original members went different ways so, in 2004 Rafael Alfaro decided that OVNI will become a Project instead of a band, that way each album would have a different line up, making the music fresh with new elements and influences by each member who contributed to each album. OVNI is Rock, and that includes Progressive Rock, Symphonic Rock, a little Rock Pop and even Ballads. “We make the kind of music that would like to hear; Nice melodies with complex structures and arrangements, although You can find some kind of simple songs as well as more than 20 minutes long ones so, as You can see there is a variety of music” says Rafael. OVNI has become a reference in their country, being one of the Rock musical projects with more trajectory in conceptual and progressive music trying to be faithful to the music that inspired them to make it.
