DAMAG3 is the boot-wearing, punch-throwing, loud and proud trans big sister that rap needed. This artist found their beginnings just outside of New Orleans making music in their bedroom. Influenced by the likes of Kendrick Lamar, JID, BROCKHAMPTON, Smino, Lamb of God, Tyler the Creator and Mac Miller, creating a uniquely-infused sound that resonates across many genres. DAMAG3 is a multi-faceted performer who challenges all those who listen to their music to get comfortable with discomfort and to recenter their life around healing and happiness. Their lyrics draw from over a decade worth of their experiences with suicidal ideation, self-sabotaging toxicity, manipulation and substance abuse. She manages to be real about the effects of recovering from these traumas without romanticizing the experiences. This ripple effect of healing can be found in the brutal surrender that is DAMAG3’s lyrics. These topics range from the failures of politicians to protect people, the continued abuse against black and brown bodies, the demonization of the LGBTQ community, and the hypocrisy of the Christian Faith. DAMAG3 pays homage to their southern roots by the purposeful subversion of the spiritual beliefs that were used to oppress them. This masterful use of spiritual motif encourages the listener to embrace their inner power and stand for what it is they believe in.
