Biyografi
When the vocalist, a blues & soul guy, encountered the band, which was influenced by the Beatles, Neil Young and XTC, in the city of Osaka in 1993, it was inevitably the beginning of this incredibly talented group. The band’s live performances and self-released cassette tape alone were enough to quickly get people’s attention, and offers from major record labels poured in. Grapevine — Kazumasa Tanaka (vocal/guitar), Hiroyoshi Nishikawa (guitar), Toru Kamei (drums), and Makoto Nishihara (bass) — signed to Pony Canyon in 1997, and in September of that year, released a 5-track EP called “Kakusei” (meaning ‘awakening/disillusion’ in English). In 1999, their second EP titled “Slow” became a smash hit, and the album Lifetime peaked at no. 3 in the national charts — a remarkable and exceptional achievement for an up-and-coming band. Ever since, every album that Grapevine has released has topped the charts, with a large-scale nationwide touring by the band to support the release. 2002 saw the departure of bassist Makoto Nishihara, but with the excellent support of Satoru Kaneto (bass) and Isao Takano (keyboard), the band has kept on rolling. In 2014 they left Pony Canyon and signed to Speedstar Records (an imprint of JVC-KENWOOD Victor Entertainment) and have so far released 5 full albums.
