GRIEF RITUAL are as heavy and miserable as the name suggests. A band caught between blackened metallic hardcore, post-metal, and the heavier, slower sides of black and death metal. Their Metal Hammer album of the year shortlisted debut EP ‘Spiritual Disease‘, recorded with Joe Clayton (Pijn, Leeched, Curse These Metal Hands) at No Studio, is a haunting listen. Grim and cathartic, a twenty-minute release of paralyzing, fearful, angry emotion, reminiscent of END, Leeched, Harms Way, Nails, and early Napalm Death. ‘Spiritual Disease‘ is GRIEF RITUAL’s metaphor for the mental illness brought on by the despotic state of the world, exploring themes of human rights stripped away, increasing poverty, and inequality propping up the super-wealthy. Such a thoughtful approach has already led to the young band catching the attention of Kerrang, Metal Hammer, Knotfest, RockSound, and The Quietus, among others. Performances at Bloodstock Open Air, 2000 Trees, the ArcTanGent x 2000trees crossover event, 80Trees, have followed, along with support slots to Knocked Loose, Terror, Gatecreeper, END, Heriot, Heart of a Coward, Static Dress, Wiegedood, Ithaca, Inter Arma, and Pupil Slicer.
