Three years after their last record, Grand Sun have changed. In spirit, they’re still the same lads, but they are more adult and mature, and ready to conceptualize new sonic paths. And conceptualizing is exactly what was done by the band on their sophomore record. In their latest single, "Conceptualize", the band does not derive from the indie rock that characterizes them, but seek to revitalize it, giving it other contours. Riding a post-punk wave, where the gothic and the dreamy side of bands like Echo & the Bunnymen influence them, they look to Windmill Brixton as a reference point and take influence from bands like THUS LOVE and Shame in search of a more adventurous punk energy. The idea for “Conceptualize” comes from the concept of finitude, a loop of life that does not allow us to pay attention to the people around us and how we relate to reality. Under the weather, with a brooding gaze about life's inevitabilities, the songs speaks about the existentialism inherent in being alive and the realization that when everything is over, memories become light around us. The song was written in 2020 in the Portuguese countryside, before being recorded at Black Sheep Studios and mixed at Pontiaq Studios by Miguel Vilhena (Niki Moss) in 2022. The track was then released in New York City, where Grand Sun's shows in the The New Colossus Festival were widely acclaimed by the press, premiering the songs from the new EP, to be released in the last quarter of 2023.
