Magical Gardening Club sound fresh but they aren’t new kids on the block. The Seville, Spain D.I.Y. project is the brainchild of Spanish musicians Erica Romero Pender (Terry vs. Tori, Martes Niebla), David Alonso (Baywaves, Ordinary Guy) and Cristian Pineda (Asociación de Vecinos, Moustoile, Nue). The trio coincided at SXSW in Austin back in 2018, where David was playing shows with psych alchemists Baywaves and Cristian was supporting jangly dream pop starlets Terry vs. Tori on guitars, with Erica also on guitars and vocals. This kicked off the start of multiple collaborations, including David’s contributions to Terry vs. Tori songs Braille and Diamond Brand. MGC started out as yet another pandemic lockdown project, with the first sound explorations occurring through online exchanges between the three. In 2022 however, things really picked up pace, motivated by picking up the instruments and trying things out together in person. Stemming from ideas of each member, MGC’s songs would take shape in tight collaboration, with David’s final producing touches to bring it all together. Their first single, "2 Wrongs” is an electro-pop reproach driven track, that finds the band leaning fully into the sound they’ve build together, punchy bass and synths welcome nostalgic guitar notes that bring down the tone, showcasing that MGC are not afraid to sound neither to cheerful nor too mournful.
