Michael J and Abbe Kanter, met in a Hollywood improv class. They began in punk dives like Madame Wong's and Al's Bar with songs like “Dick Lane” & “In the Shadow of Hitler.” In 1986 “Too Tuff To Cry,” a Hi-NRG dance track (JDC Records) became a club smash, and TIT recorded a stream of 12” singles on local dance labels. They played both discos and rock clubs, and got national radio airplay with "Big Pink House" and "Boy." Their new music morphed into Punk Cabaret and fans wanted to buy their new stuff, so Emotional Coathanger Records was born. Since 2000, TIT has released 3 full-length cds: “Meet The Tyrants In Therapy,” “High Class Trash,” and 2019’s “Spoken Weird.” Each a blend of rock, dance, punk, and blues with themes like suicide, love, politics, war, and cake. They also produced a popular 26-episode TV series now airing in NYC on the Manhattan Neighborhood Network. On social media, dance music fans around the world re-discovered TIT’s disco catalogue. In 2012 they released a digital maxi single “Perfect Love,” starting off a run of 12 more digital releases: Singles, compilations, plus ”Dance The Night Away,” a 12” vinyl maxi single with “Too Tuff,” “Sweet Magic,” and “Crazy Dreams.” Onstage, they’re a kaleidoscope of rock, dance, country, New Wave, and a dash of Cabaret. TIT’s performance is so mind-bending you might forget how to get home, even if you’re sitting in your own living room. But what else would you expect from a couple called the Tyrants in Therapy?
