Biyografi
"My favorite new artist of the moment." -Robin Hilton, NPR's "All Songs Considered" Dubbing his style "basement folk" (as opposed to "garage rock"), Queens, NY, native Thomas Patrick Maguire has gone his own way since age 12, when he started playing guitar. In the early '00s, Thomas created some recordings at the home of friend and fledgling engineer Mike Estrella, which became his overstuffed 21-track debut, Pissing Streams (2004). In the meantime, Thomas had also started going to the weekly open mic at the Sidewalk Cafe in NYC's East Village, noted as the home of the Anti-Folk scene that launched the likes of The Moldy Peaches, Nellie McKay, and Beck (see: The REAL Sound of Anti-Folk). At the Sidewalk, Thomas met Dashan Coram of the band Huggabroomstik, who was also running his own record label, Luv-A-Lot Records. Luv-A-Lot released Thomas's next album, Woodside Lanes (2005). On Christmas in 2007, Thomas released his third album, A Slight Return, featuring collaborations with Jon Sebastian of The Color Wheels. He worked in separate sessions with Sebastian and producer Brian Speaker on the follow-up album, Temper Tantrums Cause Delays (2010). Since 2012, Thomas has worked with Staten Island musician and producer Tommy Bones (of Blurple) on an increasingly more eclectic series of albums: No Suppression, Gentleman Drunk (2012), In the Bag (2014), Irish Silence (2017), and Vicious & Suspicious (2019).
