Formed in 1998 by Jorge Verdin with fellow designer Fritz Torres, Clorofila was a founding project behind Nortec Collective, the genre breaking ensemble of Tijuana based producers who created the Nortec sound. Torres left Clorofila in 2002, leaving Verdin as sole member. Clorofila contributed to 1999’s self released Nortec Sampler, as well as both official Nortec Collective releases: Nortec Collective: The Tijuana Sessions, Vol. 1 (2001) which won them international acclaim and landed the group in Time Magazine, and 2005's Tijuana Sessions Vol. 3 which was nominated for the Latin Grammy as Best Alternative Record as well as for Best Album Cover, which Verdin co-designed with Torres. During this period, Clorofila handled the main production duties for remixes for Beck’s “Guero”, as well as “Que Bonito Bailas” a track by Mexican Cumbia legend Rigo Tovar. When Nortec Collective ceased activities as an ensemble in 2007 Clorofila started on a solo path. Verdin released his first Clorofila solo album “Corridos Urbanos” in 2010, which contained hit single "BabyRock" Rock and included contributions from various Tijuana Banda Sinaloense and Norteño musicians, as well as a cameo by Bauhaus and Love and Rockets bassist, David J Haskins. In 2014, “Ahorita Vengo” Clorofila’s self released follow-up veered away from the Norteño influences of earlier tracks like Olvidela Compa and headed into a decidedly more electronic and atmospheric direction.
