Career Day is a NYC-based emo/pop-punk band. Initially briefly forming in 2018, the band dropped a demo then went dormant before re-emerging with a new lineup in 2020. With Desmond Zantua (vocalist) joined by Jacob Cutler (guitar) and Andrew Grossane (bass), they began to craft songs sonically influenced by the likes of Motion City Soundtrack, The Get Up Kids, and Braid, and lyrically directed on experiences and social commentary derived from Zantua’s experiences as a Filipino-American and advocacy work. In 2021, Career Day released their first EP, ‘Pride Was Somewhere Else’ followed by their debut LP ‘Where We’ve Always Been’, mastered by Billy Mannino (Oso Oso, Macseal). ‘Where We’ve Always Been’ has songwriting that couples the intricacy of Transit and Into It Over It-inspired musicianship with big, catchy hooks influenced by Blink-182, Jimmy Eat World, The Starting Line and The Story So Far. In addition to the sharpened songwriting, ‘Where We’ve Always Been’ lyrics largely focus on the cycles of racism in suburban America, the country’s culture and history of violence, slacktivism, and the grief of living through times of deep loss and inequity.
