RÄNDAJA entwine alternative songwriting with ethnic sounds & runic ritual into state-altering blends of folk/pop/world music. “Rändaja” in the Estonian language means “traveller” or “wanderer”. Behind this performer's name stands singer/songwriter Indrek Tammoja, whose music has been greatly inspired by his own Estonian roots and by his travels to, and interactions with, indigenous people in other world regions. As an independent artist, Indrek plays guitar and sings his own creations but he also combines with other musicians, thus complementing his songs with fascinating aural collaborations, e.g. ethnic Estonian zither, analogue synthesisers, cello, bass, keyboards, numerous percussion instruments and, of course, his own acoustic and electric guitar playing. Drawing from folklorist and poetic Estonian language, Rändaja create an original and special-sounding environment for the listener. Indrek’s lyrics are replete with references to existence, identity, soul-based motives for life, nature and our eternal being. There are influences of Estonian heritage, legends, world music, pop and even spiritual shamanic (or transformational and healing) chants, resulting in light, thoughtful, repetition-based music which invites the listener to sing along; a fascinating combination of poetic, hypnotic and ritualistic music that helps you to let go of everyday existence and imaginatively immerse yourself in a whole new musical dimension for the home of your own soul.
