Playing an upbeat, hooky brand of rock they call "slop-pop," Cocktails hail from San Francisco, California. The group was founded in May 2012 by lead singer and guitarist Pat Clos and singer, guitarist, and keyboard player Lauren Matsui. Inspired by vintage power pop and indie rock, the pair soon recruited bassist Rion Rinker and drummer Phil Lantz and began writing material. In June, the quartet recorded a four-song EP; the self-titled disc was released in February 2013 by Father/Daughter Records, and it effectively boosted their profile on the Northern California indie scene. In December 2013, the Cocktails issued a three-song single, "Friday" b/w "Let It Come Down" and "Panda Eyes," via Grazer Records. In 2014, the Cocktails expanded to a quintet as guitarist Joel Cusumano joined the band, and by midyear they'd released their first full-length album, Adult Life, through Father/Daughter, as well as playing the South by Southwest Music Conference in support.
