Windup Space are an emo rock band from Oosterhout, the Netherlands. Brothers Menno and Steven van Marle, together with neighborhood friend Jesse Kwaks, developed an expressive and emotive sound that serves as a vulnerable counterpart to modern rock. Taking inspiration from bands like Biffy Clyro, Jimmy Eat World, Black Foxxes, Arcane Roots and Basement, they skillfully blend alt-rock, emo, and atmospheric post rock into catchy, energetic rock songs. But the honesty with which they discuss personal themes such as loneliness and mental health is what truly sets them apart. Over the years, Windup Space have cut their teeth in the live circuit: supporting Gender Roles, Beachdog, and Monomyth, playing the aftershow for KALEO in AFAS Live, gracing the line-up of festivals like Misty Fields and Breda Barst, and in 2020 they were selected to be part of the Dutch traveling festival Popronde. Building on their 2019 album Shelter, Windup Space returned in 2021 with their EP Endless Sky. In these four tracks they explore new sonic territories, which results in their most memorable and ambitious set of songs to date. On singles Scared Enough and Wide-Eyed, the band further refine their signature blend of alt-rock and emo, while the dark and brooding single The Words showcases their experimental tendencies. All things considered, Endless Sky is Windup Space’s testament to breaking free from expectations, exploring new possibilities, and doing what feels right.
