If some long lost beacon transmitted a signal from the deepest nether regions of your heart, it might sound something like the music of Peter McPoland. Blips of emotion pierce a haze of digitally conjured beat-craft and guitar dissonance beneath starkly honest vocals that are unafraid to bleed out loud. His alchemy of grainy electronic production, organic instrumentation, and icy melodies alternately captivates and provokes. Much like life itself, his art can be beautiful or uncomfortable all in the same breath. Moving to NYC post-high school, he gained traction with “Lady Bird” and “I Love You Too.” Then, “Romeo & Juliet” overtook TikTok and eventually gathered millions of streams as he signed to Columbia Records. In 2022, he released his Slow Down EP, played sold out headline gigs, and supported Twenty One Pilots on their arena tour. In the midst of this whirlwind, he hit a year-long bout of writer’s block. It took a cross-country road trip to reboot his creativity, writing and recording at a feverish pace. The result is his new full-length album Piggy, releasing August 11. This fall will also bring his biggest headline run yet with 23 shows across the country. Ultimately, Peter McPoland extends his hand to audiences—and they never have to let go if they don’t want to. “If you make a connection to my music and hold onto it for a few years, that’s all I want,” he leaves off. “I hope it’s a moment for you, and it allows you to savor a moment in your youth or from last week.”
