In the late 1990s Apoptose started as a one man dark ambient project somewhere in Germany. Folk-tales and rituals of nordic origin, megacity nightmares or childhood trauma are just few of the topics that Apoptose aka. Rüdiger covers in his music. Over the years he collaborated with different singers e.g. Gary Carey of British postpunk outfit Joy of Life or the classical trained Tenor Daniel Sans. In the year 2000 the organic soundscapes of the first album Nordland instantly gained a following amongst dark ambient fanatics and the Black Metal scene. In 2002 Blutopfer put a strong emphasis on ritual drumming. The rhythms of the traditional Easter processions in the Spanish village Calanda were the main sound source. The two albums Schattenmadchen (2007) and Bannwald (2010) exhibited a much darker side. While Schattenmädchen digs into the social horrors of megacities, Bannwald is rooted deep in the forests of northern Europe. The album tells a modern fairy tale of witchcraft, ancient goddesses and the hidden forces of nature. The 2014 album Ana Liil has a more gothic approach full of songs with beautifully haunting melodies. Some of them are sung by a little girl - enthralling and unique. In 2018 Die Zukunft is released. This album features a collaboration with Daniel Sans: What Power Art Thou. A song that was composed by Henry Purcell in the late 17th century. Apoptose and Sans translate it into a breathtaking five minute ride in super dark electronics.
