DAFNE KRITHARAS's inspiration lies at the crossroads of the Eastern and Western worlds. She sings in Greek as well as In Ladino, Bosnian, Armenian or Turkish, attune with the discoveries and travels she shares with guitarist and songwriter PAUL BARREYRE and the composer CAMILLE EL BACHA. Her 1st album DJOYAS DE MAR (Lior 2018) features 12 tracks, including 7 in Greek and 5 in Ladino. With their mixed influence, these songs are linked to the experience of exile and uprooting. About DJOYAS DE MAR, Ian Anderson wrote in fROOTS Magazine: “To the list of entrancing women singers of Ladino music such as the more familiar Mor Karbasi or Yasmin Levy you can add this very fine young Greek/French singer. […] Like many beautiful, subtle and understated records, it’s an absolute grower. A few times through and it's hard to prise it out of the CD player” [Ace album of the Issue #421). About her second album VARKA (Lior 2021), Maria Lord wrote in Songlines Magazine [#176]: "It needs to be said at the onset that Dafné Kritharas has a fantastic voice, it has a clear, pure quality and superb intonation that makes it stand out." She received the "Prix des musiques d'ici/Diaspora Music Awards" in 2020 and the Grand Prix of the Charles Cros Academy for "Varka" in 2022.
