Merci implement seamless sonic synthesis. The Washington, D.C. quintet—Seth Coggeshall [vocals, guitar], Nick Jones [guitar], Colby Witko [vocals, keys], Justin Mason [bass], and Jack Dunigan [drums]—funnel dreamy nocturnal pop through the lens of dyed-in-the-wool rock underpinned by live instrumentation (Think Lana Del Rey reimagining Foo Fighters’ The Colour and the Shape, and you’re halfway there!). After grinding it out around The DMV in various groups since high school, they made their introduction on a series of singles and 2021 full-length debut for Rise Records. Following Nick’s inception of the initial project that would become Merci, the lineup was finalized with the addition of Colby, Justin and Jack. All members of various musical projects which defined the groups decade long creative partnerships. The groups first single “Foolish Me” illuminates the nuances of the band’s vision. Fusing guitar bliss, soft keys, and lush pop mystique, the track unfolds with a hypnotic elegance which hints at the versatility of the band’s sound. Following a 2022 summer co-headlining tour with My Kid Brother, Merci have returned to the studio with a matured and more visceral take on the hypnotic pop which defined their previous releases.
