In the wake of the release of several much-loved singles, Australian indie-rock quartet Champ Ruby arrive this spring with their best work to date, in the form of a brand new debut Afterthoughts EP. Written and produced prior to and amidst COVID-19 lockdowns, this first body of work was created as close to home as in studios in their native Melbourne, while being mixed and mastered as far as in Massachusetts, USA, by beloved collaborator Bradford Krieger (Big Nice Studios, Horse Jumper of Love). Spanning six tracks, at just under 24 minutes, Afterthoughts is an introspective look at how it feels to be a teenager growing up in Australia. From the synth-laden EP opener 'Spiral' to the warm, swooning ballad 'Paper Thin'; and the breezy title track 'Afterthoughts', these tracks have all been a long time coming. Champ Ruby cut their teeth playing shows to fans of all ages across the state, supporting national treasures including Slowly Slowly, The Grogans, Didirri and more. It was these experiences which saw the young band develop their audiences — and have helped garner them more than 100,000 streams between only two previously-released tracks. To round out 2022, Champ Ruby will embark on some of their biggest and best shows to date.
