Louisville, Kentucky’s Deady grew out of an interstate pandemic partnership between Chyppe Crosby (Memory Gloss, Dye Job, Archaeas) and Sam Goblin (Mister Goblin, Two Inch Astronaut). Quickly the group expanded to include drummer KJ Bechtloff (also Memory Gloss) and later bassist Clayton Ray (Future Fossils, Parlour) as they began to find their sound as a unit. The group sent their first completed instrumental to vocalist Mandy Keathley (Bummer Club Kid) to lay some vocals on top of. The result of that collaboration was the song “Knock,” which ratcheted up excitement across the board and made it feel fated that Keathley was set to move back to Louisville from LA a few months later. With the lineup finalized and everyone more or less in the same place, the band began honing their sound and cutting their teeth at various venues and DIY spots throughout the Midwest. Deady draws on reference points across the punk/post-hardcore spectrum as well as Louisville’s rich musical history, with their varied backgrounds combining in a way that should be immiscible, but ultimately go together like ethanol and water, or Miller and Lite as the case may be. The band’s confrontational live shows have earned them a growing local following as they’ve shared bills with bands like Retirement Party, Grocer, Death Valley Girls, and Mike Adams at His Honest Weight. They’re currently working on writing, recording, and capitalizing on the creative momentum they’ve harnessed over the past year.
