Northern Assembly was initially formed around the two songwriters Dina Dánialsdóttir (FO, DK) and Andreas Bevan (NO, UK), who began writing music together in 2013. The two were later joined by bassist Jesper Smalbro and drummer Jens Hedegaard in 2014. The Danish quartet subsequently released their debut EP "Northern Assembly" later that year. A few sold-out shows quickly harnessed a dedicated local following in their hometown Aarhus. After winning a prestigious live-award in 2015, the band gained national interest and guested festivals around the country followed by a tour in Switzerland. 2018 saw the release of the band's debut album "Death, Won't You Marry Me?", combining Northern Assembly's live energy with large dynamic vocals and inspiring songwriting. The album was well received and was followed by extensive touring throughout Denmark, a short tour in South Korea, and generous airtime on national radio. Northern Assembly released their anticipated sophomore album "Closer Together" in September 2019. The album received five stars from the music magazine GAFFA and became one of the year's most-played albums on P5. Over the years, Northern Assembly has played hundreds of concerts at home and abroad, where they have garnered great acclaim for their strong songwriting, intimate performances, humor, and storytelling.
