Andaluz quartet Ecos del Rocio have enjoyed a long lasting career carving out a niche for flamenco-inspired music in the pop world. Formed in the 1980s, Ecos del Rocio's members (Juan Manuel, Paco, Jesús, and Miguel) were sons of farmers in Rota, Cadíz. Thanks to the support of the Fundacíon Alcalde Zoilo Ruis-Mateos, the fledgling group was able to form a strong foundation and begin recording early. Their first LP was released in 1984, initiating a discography that would come to include more than a dozen titles. International touring and a strong radio presence throughout their more than two decades of productivity established Ecos del Rocio as one of the most influential (albeit not most popular) rhumba fusion groups of the '80s and '90s. Their work bringing Spanish traditions into modern day music laid the groundwork for Ecos' modern-day labelmates (Ediciones Senador) El Barrio, Hugo, and Arcangel. After decades of releases, Ecos del Rocio demonstrated their staying power with the 2007 release 25 Besos para Ti. Not just popular among the group's loyal fan base, the album held at number 25 on Spanish pop charts for a number of weeks. ~ Evan C. Gutierrez, Rovi
