Samantha Urbani is a musician, multimedia artist, activist, and a culture contrarian bar none. Channeling a collage of influences, and synthesizing them to craft a sound that’s uniquely her own, Samantha creates pop music with a purpose. As the leader of Brooklyn experimental pop band Friends, she developed a tenacious DIY attitude that has since developed into an ethos of individualism. This approach has allowed her to shine on collaborations with artists like Nite Jewel, Zoe Kravitz, and Doldrums, as well as across many of the standout tracks from Blood Orange’s 2013 album Cupid Deluxe. Following years of touring and contributing to the projects of fellow artists, Samantha brought her own solo career from the sideline to the spotlight, releasing the standout singles “1 2 3 4” and “U Know I Know" in 2015. Two years later, Samantha delivered her long awaited debut EP, Policies of Power, with critics applauding the immediacy of her referential but contemporary take on pop music, while tackling the hefty lyrical topics of emotional justice and policies of power Easily navigating the shifting pop music landscape with finesse and grit, the EP cemented Samantha’s status as an artist on the ascent. Today, she continues producing and collaborating with other artists, as well as writing and recording material of her own.
