At a very young age Rio began to play the various instruments that were lying around in the music room of his childhood home, most of which he learned by himself. At 12 he was already playing in different bands and over the years he became a sought-after session musician on the drums - which became his primary instrument - thus earning his spurs in a variety of styles. He played international tours with swiss pop phenomenon Sophie Hunger, electronic pop producer Pablo Nouvelle and US folk musician Peter Broderick as well as working intensively with the free-kraut-jazz Trio Heinz Herbert to just name a few. Almost nobody noticed that he was constantly working on songs of his own on the side and even for the few informed it still remained a mystery. Loads of promising half-finished songs& sketches are said to be lost on forgotten hard-drives. Only some of which he played with his reclusive longtime band Mnevis and everyone who heard them wondered how they could stay a secret for so long. A part of the treasure is now unveiled with the mini-album Magnus. It contains of seven songs which - as you might guess knowing about Rio's stylistic variety - don't abide by strict genre rules. The record much more comes across as a pop playground with lots of references and a remarkable courage to experiment. Needless to say that besides very few exceptions Rio played all the instruments himself, and you get the feeling that this record might only be the start of a promising solo career.
