Featuring an experimental blend of folk-rock and psychedelic pop that incorporates electronics, Sing Leaf is the home-recorded, often nature-themed project of Canadian musician David Como. He began releasing music under the alias in 2007, with his first full-length, Watery Moon, arriving in 2013. He made his Tin Angel Records debut with second album Shu Ra in 2018. With a vocal delivery that lands in the vicinity of Dylan and Petty, Como began uploading songs and remixes as Sing Leaf in 2007, and he released the project's eponymous EP in September of that year. It included guests on flute, guitar, drums, and backing vocals, though Como covered the majority of the performances himself. The same was true of the follow-up EP, 2008's Wandering. After a handful of self-released singles, Chill Mega Chill issued Sing Leaf's debut album, Watery Moon, in 2013. It featured guitarist Jordan Bacon, who had also played on the prior EPs and co-wrote two of the album's songs. A third EP, Lonely Star, followed a year later, offering a mix of original songs and Watery Moon remixes. In the meantime, Como went through a divorce and began writing and recording music in seclusion, as therapy, without intending to release it. A friend, musician/producer Sandro Perri, eventually learned of the songs and urged Como to share them. Tin Angel Records issued the resulting Shu Ra in 2018. It was also influenced by a gifted collection of 300 world music cassettes that he was sorting through at the time. With Como newly remarried, Sing Leaf's third long-player, Not Earth, was originally conceived with a fictional alien landscape in mind. Made entirely at home by Como except for a few guest performances, including guitar by Bacon, it was sent to Perri for mastering and released on Tin Angel in September 2020. ~ Marcy Donelson, Rovi
