Moods is the artist project of Rotterdam-based producer Nick Lubbersen. Drawing vast influences from such acclaimed instrumental hip-hop titans as Pete Rock, J Dilla, and Nujabes, lofi flavors and soulful undertones fuse seamlessly with his easily identifiable beat work. This fusion quickly caught attention in the global tastemaker space, including support from Majestic Casual, Indie Shuffle, and Complex. Signing to Kraak & Smaak’s Boogie Angst imprint in 2013, the Dutchman has since called the label home, bringing his distinct production prowess and a plethora of international collaborations to the table along the way. Where ‘Love Is Real’ presented a breakthrough moment for the project, 2018 debut LP Zoom Out was a moment of clarity for where this distinctly soulful instrumental touch was connecting the dots with talents across the globe. Garnering more than 25m streams globally, the LP hosted collaborations alongside Sam Wills, Pip Millett, Beau Nox, JAEL, HIGH HOOPS, and Damon Trueitt, among others, adding further evidence to the bubbling global demand for Lubbersen’s output. With further successful releases on the Chillhop imprint and support from BBC Radio One, 1XTRA, Sirius XM and KCRW, 2020 has seen Moods continue his consistent output of collaborative output, including singles alongside Two Another, daste, and Yasper. 100 million+ global streams later, the slick and soulful precedent set by Moods shows no signs of slowing down on the approach to the New Year.
