Sydney electronic-psych-soul outfit World Champion are back with ‘Gun’, the first single off their forthcoming mammoth 7-track EP, to be released this summer.   World Champion emerged in 2015, releasing their debut EP Avocado Galaxy, the title track of which was produced with Jono Ma (Jagwar Ma). After gaining notable praise from music publications both domestically and abroad, as well as regular rotation on Triple J, FBi Radio and BBC 1, the band went on to play at some of Australia’s biggest festivals. One particularly eager fan even went to so far as to get a tattoo of an avocado galaxy on his arm after seeing the band play live. 

Since then the band have been hard at work crafting their best material to date. Their forthcoming EP was written and recorded between their music cave in Sydney, a retro studio in the Byron Bay Hinterlands and the sun-dripped haze of Los Angeles, and features collaborations with the likes of Jono Ma (Jagwar Ma) as well as Jack Glass and Chris Stracey (Bagraiders). The release retains all the bands distinct flavours but World Champion have evolved. Seasoned by nights sharing the stage with Toro Y Moi, Chkchkchk!, Jagwar Ma, and Parcels. Their cosmic synth dappled arrangements re-imagine the timeless themes of motown and apply them in a modern sonic and cultural context.  Their forthcoming EP is an evocative soundtrack born in a velvet-clad room, overlooking the beach, tinkering on a Moog synthesiser and a Fender Telecaster.
