There's a joke Hana Bryanne has been dying to tell you. Dollface, the debut LP from the American singer, writer, and emotional brunette, is a study of contradictions: it's folk music about the internet, lullabies about sexual violence, dance music about her mother's illness. The 3rd single and title track, available June 30th, is a potent exploration of online girlhood set to a backdrop of sparkling synths and acoustic guitars. The album sees her twangy indie sensibilities take on new colors amidst her heart-wrenching meditations on love and loneliness. To accompany the album, an essay written by the singer, also called Dollface, will appear in the magazine Talkhouse on the 16th of June. It's the first of a series of companion pieces, showcasing Bryanne's deft pen, thin skin, and clarity of voice as a writer. She is currently based in Los Angeles.
