Breathe in. It’s the first sound we hear from J.R. Wyatt on his wholehearted sophomore release, “I’m Still Here”. The album is a delicate, yet dynamic meditation on how loss and pain build character and wisdom. Rather than shying away from or submitting to grief, Wyatt invites it in to have a beer and talk it out. His acknowledgment of absence is akin to the awareness of space in his production (along with co-producer, Will Honaker). The lush sonic layers and orchestral arrangements flow like water throughout the record, bookended by the sounds of solitude as we’re alone with Wyatt in his opener and send off. It’s appropriate as he reminds us that even in times of isolation, we're still here. Breathe out.
