Elena Setien is a Spanish-Basque artist now living in San Sebastián. Trained in classical violin and composition her recording work started with free improvisation and is now song-based. Elena lived in Copenhagen-Denmark, where she was a part of the label/artist collective ILK with whom she released several albums: first as Little Red Suitcase with co-hort Johanna Borchert and then solo. Elena recently signed to Chicago label Thrill Jockey: "Setién’s declarative gestures both musically and lyrically breathe life into her expressive allegories. Her careful arrangements are direct and affecting, her smooth vocals inviting with their warmth. Setién's creative choices bely her independent spirit and the results are irresistible. Elena plays nearly every instrument on the album, a testament to her independent spirit. The album's first single, title track "Another Kind Of Revolution," features one of the album's only guest performers, Steve Gunn" Selected press: "“Another Kind of Revolution” is a shimmering tribute to mythical women—it crescendos cinematically into an image of past, present, and future women standing together in solidarity." "Setién makes each song feel as vivid and atmospheric as a film score." Pitchfork "File under: ancient melodies of the future". Dusted Magazine "Another Kind of Revolution is a stirring signal to defy gender conventions while lauding and magnifying women's identities and contributions." Pop matters
