Biyografi

After their last album, the award-winning The Eastern Light, The Dardanelles had a moment where they thought they might never make another full length album. They had come up playing the late-night bars of St. John’s, brought traditional Newfoundland music to packed halls and festivals around the world, but, as it often goes, life had separated them across the country - Toronto, Ottawa and around Newfoundland and Labrador. So one snowy weekend they decided to get together at a cabin deep in the woods of Quebec to play music together. Through bottles of beer and late night songs, something powerful emerged - their love of playing music together and their love of the music of their home had never been stronger. Produced by Irish Music Legend John Doyle ‘In The Spring That’s The Time’ is a collection of music from Newfoundland from tunes that go back hundreds of years, to compositions from more modern times from the genius of Ron Hynes to brand new compositions from the band members themselves. While deeply reverential of the sources of this music, they play this music not out of any attempt of ‘preservation’, but out of sheer love of the music itself. Newfoundland music can be energetic in one moment and meditative in another, frenetic and then regimented, rousing and solitary. While right now it is easy to feel stuck inside, isolated and separate; this music does what this music has always done - created a connection. For Fans of: Great Big Sea, Planxty, Ashley MacIsaac
