Meaning 'dream' in ancient Norse, Draumr stands out as the solo project of the french musician, producer and director Gabriel Cheurfa. Through spell-binding visuals reminiscent of the surrealism of David Lynch, Michel Gondry, Salvador Dalí or Jean-Pierre Jeunet, and a very distinct sound blending dream pop, downtempo, glo-fi and chillwave, the multifaceted artist draws on memories, real or distorted, to build a bridge over emptiness - a junction of dreams and trailing echoes of the past. After the array of pastels and colors of his first two unclassifiable EPs Nefelibata (2015), and Ethereal Mildness (2018) (mixed by the legendary French Touch producer Stéphane 'Alf' Briat), Draumr releases his debut album Drawn-Out Daydream (2020), taking us on an unusual yet intimate and authentic journey. It invites us in its composite universe, grounding us in the present, creating a delicate and dreamlike state. Through its soft synthetic layers on Sage Green Eyes, its ethereal choirs and its warm rhythms on the epic and soothing Solace In Loneliness or the uplifting sophisti-pop duos with the rising french pop singer Dorcas on the songs Sunlight Tryst and Another Heart, the artist rouses our spirits, suspends time, and frees us for a moment, from the weight of modernity. The newly released, hypnotic and catchy nu-disco/avant-pop tune In a Daze (2023) brings out new colors to the project, setting up a solar odyssey somewhere lost in time and space.
