Major Murphy, the Grand Rapids, Michigan-based heartland rock band, returns with an EP of new material and reworked songs from their 2021 full-length release, Access. Title track and EP opener "Access Point" didn’t get tracked during the Access recording sessions, but was written in the same era. Across the remaining six songs of the project, Major Murphy and friends reinterpret the songs from Access in their own unique and creative ways. On a chilled-out, acoustic take of album highlight "In the Meantime", the band inverts their signature vocal pairing. Here Jacki sings lead vocals and Jacob provides harmonies. "Unfazed (Moonrun Version)" comes courtesy of Los Angeles-based musician and producer Justin Kohlberg, who stumbled across an acoustic version of "Unfazed". Instantly connecting with the songwriting, Kohlberg set off to record his own version of the song using the off-the-cuff live performance clip Jacob had posted online as his guide. The resulting cover is a hazy fever dream of guitar licks and warm, uplifting production. “Attention (Triathlon Remix)” finds the NYC slacker-pop trio Triathalon delivering a chilled-back, tropical reinterpretation of the grooviest track from Access. Chopped full of bongos and phased-out synths, the remix squeezes all the funk right out of the track and mixes it up into a sweet cocktail fit to be sipped on a breezy terrace or dance floor.
