deM atlaS is not just an entity, but an idea teetering in the realm of both light and shadow. He strives to understand the world around him and find some sense of belonging while suspended in a forlorn, almost childlike fantasy. Raised in the Twin Cities and brought up under musical giants such as Prince, deM atlaS uses music not only to escape, but to confront the specters of his past. Active since 2012, deM seamlessly mixes and bends genres to his will, creating a raw and unique sound that owes a lot to his upbringing of dusty soul records and early punk and hip hop paraphernalia. In his music, deM atlaS conveys a deep yearning for human connection, vulnerability and realness in a world that so often seems to lack it.
