Falling into the bottomless abyss of broken dreams with a fool's hope of catching a glimpse of beauty along the way. VEiiLA have always been outcasts. Never belonging to any niche, the duo of Vif Nüte and Bes Eired, spent their time crafting their own brand of sensual melancholic music driven by Vif's uncategorizable voice and devastating existential poetry. Nevertheless their left-field sound is often favored by both hardcore darkwave fans and trip-hop aficionados. After a transitional year of 2022, when the two became a “band without a country” their demeanor grew only more brooding and desperate. Indulging in nihilistic self-labeling, varying from “gentle punk” to “broken toys” to “side-effect of civilization”, VEiiLA equally distanced themselves from either electronic or rock niche stripping their sound down to a mechanical drum machine, reverb-shrouded guitar, jazzy electric piano and low roaring synth bass. This new minimalism cleared even more space for the intimate vocals that hypnotically chant and innocently murmur their introspective allegories of universal indifference and lost hope. The instrumental asceticism is the essential part of VEiiLA's current approach to writing: instead of “producing” songs the two focus on playing live, leaving recording and post-production to the final and least prominent stage. With their new single releases VEiiLA started 2023 gradually unfolding their new works, building up for the upcoming new album. veiila.com
