Freeform Five is London based DJ, producer and songwriter Anu Pillai. A veteran of the dance scene for over 25 years, Anu broke out with his remix of Isolee’s ‘Beau Mot Plage’, a bona-fide house music classic that is still played by DJ’s across the spectrum, from Louie Vega to The Chemical Brothers to Bicep. He has had releases on seminal labels such as Classic, Glitterbox, and Exploited, and remixed everyone from N.E.R.D to Brian Wilson. Anu also set up ‘Perspex Recordings’ releasing productions and remixes from Derrick Carter, Riva Starr, Riton, Xavier de Rosnay and Peder Mannerfelt amongst others. Following a relentless touring schedule that took in the most renowned clubs worldwide including Space, Fabric, D’Edge and Cocoon as well as major festivals like Glastonbury, Parklife and Benicassim, Anu then spent the past decade in the studio crafting pop hits for artists as diverse as Lewis Capaldi and Weiss, with the occasional remix for the likes of Deadmau5 and Phoenix (with A-Trak). But with house music still running deep in his veins, Freeform Five was revived after collaborating with vocal royalty Roisin Murphy on ‘Leviathan’ and Ali Love on ‘Throwing Stones’ (which was the 4th Essential New Tune of his career). The unique Freeform Five catalogue is now available on streaming services for the first time, including remixes by Paul Woolford, Lindstrøm, and Radio Slave amongst other legendary producers.
