English alt-country band formed by Jof Owen from The Boy Least Likely. Inspired by a long-standing love of country music and memories of growing up watching Dukes Of Hazzard and listening to Johnny Cash and Marty Robbins. Their songs combine a classic country sound with an honest and unmistakable English indie charm. Heartfelt and uplifting with a truckload of chicken pickin' and country swagger thrown in. Released in 2022, their sophomore album added an eighties country twist to their neo-traditionalist sound as they doubled down on their love of Dire Straits and nineties country and recorded ten blistering cuts of “Drivetime” country; hi-NRG country pop with a powerful eighties heartland influence pulsing through the middle of it. They write about the absurdities of modern life, gender politics and the depressing reality of ageing. Colloquial and quintessentially English, these are songs about searching for meaning and longing for belonging in a pre-apocalyptic world. Sad but in a funny way, full of knowing humour and hope. Their debut album, Talk About Country, was released to glowing reviews and had a lot of love at radio from Bob Harris, Country Line, Baylen Leonard, and Cerys Matthews on 6 music, as well as the Rough Trade shop. Aside from the tongue-in-cheek band name, the only hint of irony here derives from the fact that one of the most exciting country bands around at the moment comes from the English home counties, not Nashville.
