NCY Milky Band is a French quartet lead by BMM Records co-founder and multi-instrumentalist Louis Treffel, accompanied by saxophonist Quentin Thomas, bassist Antoine Léonardon and drummer Paul Lefèvre. This band based in Nancy, France, offers unique hybrids between rare groove, jazz, funk, soul, hip-hop and modern electronica. They started as the label's backing-band and collaborated with local rappers and musicians like Cotchei and Léon Evangelion. In 2020, they released a mini-album titled Our Gurus, which features groovy covers of their influences including Madlib, Jean-Claude Vannier or Boards of Canada. It was quickly followed by their debut album Burn'IN the next year, oscillating between feel-good ballads and nostalgic slow jams, bringing a touch of originality and freshness to the French jazz scene. Recorded during their tour in 2021, their second album 100 Ans explores new cinematic and psychedelic horizons, tending towards pop, hip-hop and library music. Their compositions are thought of as sonic photographs of everyday life, aiming to reflect real situations which, expressed in music, become distorted, blurred and dreamlike.
