Birmingham-born grunge pop singer CHELJI is the slice of fresh air and slab of reality that 21st century pop needs. Her colossal track “Hate Me” blew up on TikTok years after she packed up her music career, having borne the brunt of following a dream to some dark, and lonely corners. Writing music from personal experience, her themes are bleak: domestic abuse, severe depression, substance abuse… it would be easy to fall into victim, but CHELJI is not one. There’s a hopefulness to her. “My music’s gonna be fucked up. I’m going to touch on topics no one has ever touched on,” she explains. “I want people who don’t feel heard to listen to my music and say “I’m valid.”
