    The soukous music of Zaire (Democratic Republic of the Congo) has been updated to create the "rumba funk" by Paris-based vocalist Emeneya Kester. While rooted in the musical traditions of Africa, Kester has increasingly incorporated European influences and instrumentation. The result is a global sound that Kester claims to aim towards "the new generation for the interplanetary conquest of musical space."
