Glaetzner is a many-sided musician equally renowned as a conductor, oboe virtuoso, and for his pedagological work. From 1958 until 1962, he studied at the Musikschule der Stadt Berlin (Ost) (East Berlin City Music School) and from 1962 until 1965, he studied in the oboe department of the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" (Hanns Eisler Music Academy) with professor Hans Werner Wätzig. He was first oboist with the Leipziger Rundfunkorchester (Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra) from 1966 until 1982, and was engaged at the same time as a teacher at the Leipziger Hochschule für Musik "Felix-Mendelssohn-Bartholdy" (Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy Music Academy in Leipzig). In 1968, Glaetzner founded Trio Aulos with cellist Wolfgang Weber and keyboardist Gerhard Erber, who focus upon Baroque and contemporary music. These separate musics were later divided into the Gruppe Neue Musik Hanns Eisler (the Hanns Eisler Group for New Music) in 1970, and the Baroque music ensemble under Glaetzner's direction, I Solisti Instrumentali Leipzig, in 1983. Glaetzner has also led the chamber orchestra Neues Bachisches Collegium Musicum since 1988. The group has toured throughout Europe, America, and Asia. In 1992, he accepted the position of professor at the Berliner Hochschule der Künste (Berlin Academy of Art).
