Biyografi

Corners was an L.A. band that did everything their own way—they made a left-turn into bleaked-out post-punk when everyone else was playing around with psych and garage, and they put together an album of such clarity and vision that it was almost too sharp to touch when everyone else was hiding under reverb and lo-fi. (It helped that everyone in the band was a top-notch audio engineer.) 2014’s Maxed Out On Distractions is destined to be the definitive re-discovery when the future comes back to look at Lolipop Records, and every indication was that the next record would be the album that made them into something timeless. But it never came—members Tracy Bryant, Billy Changer and Jeffertiti all put out solo work, and Rick Mabery moved more completely into the production side. And today we’re here with the bittersweet news that Corners is officially over … but they’re leaving with a final four-song EP that would have been the start of that next album, and that shows what would/could/should have been. The four-song The Floor EP is out now on the new Day End label, and “Damages” is a characteristically Corners song that matches Joy Division gravity to CA post-punk like the underrated Homeland by the Middle Class—it’s a dark but not defeated song where the negative space is as much a part of the sound as the music. 500 copies of The Floor (with art by Tim Presley) are available now. Get it while you can—fittingly, this won’t last either. - Chris Ziegler (L.A. RECORD)
