If you’re talking grime in 2022, then you’ve got to mention Renz. Whether he’s on his ones or representing the cutting-edge collectives Mob Set and NEGROPOP, the 23-year-old firebrand is leading the way as one of this generation’s most innovative MCs—and he’s just getting started. 
 Initially making a name for himself the old-fashioned way – muscling through crowded pirate radio sets to squeeze off a quick sixteen – the Lambeth lyricist had soon secured appearances at both BBK Festival and Bestival alongside early champion DJ Argue. Expanding his catalogue with routine collaborations with Squintz as well as established acts like Plastician and Scrufizzer, the South Londoner has since drummed up praise from some of the UK’s biggest tastemakers, among them Complex, Boiler Room, GRM Daily and Mixtape Madness to name but a few. Renz’s debut project, the WhoopDiDiDooTape, follows on from a string of acclaimed singles and videos including the incendiary war dub “Loose”, which set in motion a scene-wide sending season; the frantic “PullUpInaDinger”, which provides a fresh spin on grime’s original eski sound; and the fan favourite “Bit of Me”, in which he hilariously flips a SpongeBob reference to show his romantic side. With production from stars of the scene including Jme, Sir Spyro and Novelist as well as guest verses from Cadell, Duppy and Squintz, it’s a masterclass in how to construct a grime LP in 2022.
