When you think of Chicago, the first thought that comes to mind is The Bulls, The beautiful Downtown, and unfortunately violence. The Westside of Chicago is also home to rapper Yung Stakks. Stakks is a HipHop artist sure to make his name appear among those that you think of when Chicago is the topic. Yung Stakks’ father was a big gang chief in the windy city and Stakks grew up in one of Chicago’s worst neighborhoods on the city’s westside. A youth surrounded by blight would give you a sense of what was in store for his future, but that’s where you would be wrong if you judged him as someone that would seem to have a limited future. Seeing failure in Yung Stakks’ future wasn’t likely to some, it was guaranteed. If you made this same judgement that is where you would be wrong. Refusing to become a product of his environment, Yung Stakks has survived and thrived in his growth to manhood. Having endured his fair share of street violence, being put in numerous life-threatening situations, one of those in 2017 when he was shot twice while sitting on his grandmother’s porch. Yung Stakks survived that ordeal, only to then suffer life threatening injuries due to a major car accident, provoked by someone that ran him and his friends off the road. His composure in surviving these situations earned him an esteemed reputation on the streets of Chicago, but Yung Stakks aspires for more and continues to push his music to the people who can relate.
