A moonless night. A fog marched in like a ghostly army across the valley. Ted’s eyes opened. He had somehow walked into the center of the woods. There appeared a glowing green orb. A low voice boomed slowly, seemingly from all directions: “I have chosen you...you among the few…to bring forth the scythe of death.” Ted stood transfixed, staring wide-eyed into the bright light. “I grant you powers beyond their control.” These last words echoed endlessly in his mind. The light grew brighter, bathing everything in a hellish green hue. “…I grant you powers beyond their control…” He clutched his head with both hands, groaning. Suddenly, the voice stopped. He awoke in his bedroom. Daylight.
