Starlet formed in the Swedish town of Kristianstad in the early 1990’s by songwriter, guitarist and vocalist Jonas Martinsson, guitarist Mathias Nilsson (Twig, WÆE), drummer Ludwig Engelbert, keyboardist Anders Olsson (Endless Shame, Autodafeh) and bassist Peter Viktorsson. The latter left the group and was replaced by Dan Eriksson (Double Dan). After a few demos, and some lineup changes, Starlet signed with Parasol (USA), and released the debut, From The One You Left Behind (1997). The album was made up of both demo material and newly recorded songs. New to the band were guitarist Joakim Ödlund (Poprace, Acid House Kings, Double Dan), bassist and vocalist Henrik Mårtensson (Poprace, Pallers), and drummer Anders Baeck (Poprace, The Bustups, Babian). The album Stay On My Side was released in 2000, and made it onto SPIN magazine’s top 200. Even though now living in different parts of Sweden, Starlet managed to pull a third album, When Sun Falls On My Feet (2002). Martinsson kept writing songs for Starlet, while other members played in other constellations. The songs written by Martinsson in the early 2000’s, and meant for a fourth album, have only existed on paper and demos, for various reasons. During 2004–2011 Martinsson played guitar in the live lineup of the band The Legends, on their Swedish, Spanish, German and NYC tours. Twenty years down a tangled road, in 2023, the first song—My Sweetest Ache—from the upcoming fourth album is released on May 10.
