Biyografi
Formed in Papunya in the Northern Territory in 1980 the Warumpi Band were outstanding pioneers of contemporary Indigenous rock music in Australia. They were first to commercially release a rock pop single in an indigenous language ( Luritja) with "Jailanguru Pakarnu" ( Out From Jail) in 1983. They went on to record and release the albums "Big Name No Blankets" , "Go Bush" and " Too Much Humbug" which spawned the iconic songs of "Blackfella Whitefella" ,"My Island Home" and " Waru". Known for their exciting live shows - fronted by charismatic lead singer George Rrurrambu- the Warumpi Band toured nationally for 20 years. They toured Europe in 1995 and PNG, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu in 1985. In 2000 they officially retired and George Rrurrambu and Neil Murray both pursued solo recording and performing careers. Sammy Butcher released a solo instrumental album. They reformed for a performance in Alice Springs in 2004 and again in 2006 for "The Dreaming Festival" in Queensland Sadly, in 2007 George Rrurrambu passed away and in 2020 original drummer Gordon Butcher also passed. Neil Murray and Sammy Butcher remain musically active. Together, they wrote and recorded the album "Tjungu" ( all in one joined together) which was released in 2019.
