Based in Berlin, Germany and known for his eclectic and diverse sound palette spanning everything from sleek and shady yet accessible electro pop to upbeat neo-folk, Mooryc (real name: Maurycy Zimmerman) is a Polish producer and singer/songwriter. Born in Poznań in 1981, Zimmerman was raised on an assorted diet of jazz, classical, and popular music -- from artists such as Arvo Pärt, Johann Sebastian Bach, and Händel to Peter Gabriel, Paul Simon, Aphex Twin, Depeche Mode, and Boards of Canada. He displayed a natural ability and academic aptitude for writing and learning music (most notably, he took an interest in cello building and gaining knowledge about the instrument’s history and philosophy). After becoming particularly interested in varied production techniques, Zimmerman went on to release several EPs under the moniker of Mooryc for various independent German and Italian labels in the 2000s. During this time, he also collaborated with pianist Krzysztof Dys and the duo act SzaZa and has produced a number of remixes for artists such as Rangleklods and Saurone. He went on to sign with Freude am Tanzen, resulting in numerous collaborations with labelmate Douglas Greed and his side project Eating Snow. Mooryc released his debut label full-length, Roofs, via Freude am Tanzen in 2013. He followed up with his sophomore effort, Take ‘Em All in 2015 and Wiped Out, via Sonar Kollektiv, in 2016. Wiped Out boasted a notably more organic sound than its predecessors while still incorporating Mooryc's pristine signature electronic production. ~ Rob Wacey, Rovi
