Violet Bell will take you on a trip. The transcendental duo of Lizzy Ross and Omar Ruiz-Lopez blends folk, psychedelic, and soul to “push against the limitations of genres” (IndyWeekly). Ross’s evocative vocals intertwine with multi-instrumentalist Ruiz-Lopez’s lithe hooks around a strong core of storytelling, exploring what it is to be in relationship with one’s self, each other, and the Earth. Ross and Ruiz-Lopez have been touring from their home base in North Carolina since 2016, yielding a critically acclaimed LP and EP in the process. Violet Bell’s newest album, Shapeshifter, features guest performances from Tatiana Hargreaves, members of Mipso, and Joe Troop, was produced by Grammy-nominated Jason Richmond (Avett Brothers) and tells the story of the selkie, a magical seal that can become human. It’s a healing balm for the splintered-off pieces of our shadows, both individual and collective.
