Skin, lead singer of multi-million selling UK rock band Skunk Anansie, has been smashing through gender, racial and queer stereotypes for 25 years. In 2020 she published her memoir It Takes Blood and Guts, which topped bestseller lists on Amazon and Waterstones. The book explores how “a girl like me grew up to shake the world of rock.” She also enjoys a guest spot every Sunday on indie/rock station Absolute Radio, playing new music with classic songs that influenced her musical journey. After three huge genre-colliding albums with Skunk Anansie in the 1990s, Skin released two solo records - 2003’s Fleshwounds, and Fake Chemical State (2006). Skunk reunited in 2009 and since then have released four more LPs, including Wonderlustre (2010) and Anarchytecture (2016). The band’s most recent album, 25LIVE@25, demonstrates what a force Skin is live. Although the band had to take a break during lockdown, they are back in 2021 playing Grace Jones’ Meltdown@Southbank, Glastonbury Festival, and a full European tour. Skin remains a pivotal force - not just as a rock singer but also as DJ and cultural icon. In 2015 she teamed up with mighty DJ/producer Nicole Moudaber to create highly acclaimed EP Breed. Continually pushing boundaries, Skin proves that one’s potential can be limitless. As she says: “Anger can be useful in the right place and time. It gives you sparks, gets you moving, feeds your passion, and separates the girls from the toys!”
