Make no mistake – Dutchavelli is doing it for greatness. The east London rapper set a goal four years ago – to be the best. A rapper’s rapper with true global appeal, a handsome side road hustler gone national, a man with a firm presence and a clear vision – Dutch has it all. And – in @Only If You Knew and @Surley– he already has two of the year’s biggest singles under his belt... With the UK hanging on for his next release, Dutch’s ambitions now reach far and wide – into Europe (perhaps he’ll exercise his bi-lingual talent on a future track?) and toward the United States. He’s a true mogul too. Business like (he wants his label, 2Up2Down, to become a hot spot for young acts), but also charitable (earlier this year he gave away free chicken and chips to school kids across south London), Dutch is perhaps the most versatile, multi-faceted rap act to come from the UK in years. There’s been no slip-up, no selling out, and no watering down of his experience for commercial woo-ing either. So maybe you’ll hear the ripples of conversation first, proclaiming Dutch as the one to watch out for – a maverick who runs rings around most current rappers, without substituting technical brilliance for a hook – or maybe you’ll hear the unmistakable voice. But – whether you like it or not – both are coming. The scene is set. Dutchavelli, the great, is here.
